GARMIN GPS
Are you having problems with your Garmin GPS?
Go to www.garmin.com click the Support tab / Repair and then click Out of Warranty link
Select your model to see the cost to either repair yours or exchange yours for a remanufactured GPS
I had problems with my screen on my Zumo 550.
The buttons were being selected without touching the screen and it wanted to erase data
I called Garmin Support 1-800-800-1020 and they shipped me a rrmanufactured one that day!
It only cost $150.00 to replace. I had the new GPS in 2-3 days
I used the same box to send back my broken GPS for credit
Be sure to save all your info on your old unit to install on the new one
TRIKE: FORK EXTENDER CAPS
Paul from Misty Mountain Cycle sells and installs the 2 inch extender caps for your trike.
It levels the trike, levels the seat and leans back the windshield which reduces wind resistance.
I purchased a set and installed them myself. It is not for a beginner.
I had to remove everything to include the dash cluster to be able to compress the spring and screw on the new caps.
You need to remove the brake line brackets above the front wheel and peal off the little boots and reposition them 2 inches higher.
It raised the mirror 1 5/8 inches. I now have 5 1/2 inches of ground clearance
Looks level and I don't slide down the seat!
Love it!
DYNA BEADS
No more lead weights on your rim and they will balance your tire every time you ride!
Sunrise sells them $5.47 per tire
HELMET HOLDER
Home Depot sells 3/8 inch I.D. Rubber Grommets in their electrical section that will fit your helmet hangers
They stop the metal on metal wear, noise and looks pretty good
TIRE PRESSURE is #1
It is Very Important to check your tire pressure before every ride!
The newer Dunlop III requires 41 psi in both front and rear
and use NITROGEN in your tires - they last longer

OIL CHANGE
After a great deal of research it's my opinion that there is a better oil at a much better price.
Rotella T 5w40 synthetic (Blue Bottle) can be purchased at Wal-Mart for around $20.00 per gallon.
It meets all the requirements for the Gold Wing and is a full synthetic without friction modifiers
which is bad for the wet clutch on the 1800.
OIL FILTERS
I use the Super Tech ST6607 or Fram PH6607 from Wal-mart and the Rotella T 5w40 Synthetic making an oil change under $25.00 bucks versus $45.00 with Honda oil and filter. I have been amazed at how much quieter the shifting is, no more clunking on the downshift coming up to a light. Also the 1800 whine is more reserved. So all in all I think I have found the right oil and filter for me! You can change your oil more often and still save money!
You make your own decision on what to use and what price to pay.
Stock up before prices go up, Like I did!
OIL FILTER DATA
According to MCN motorcycle consumer news, who tested many oil filters, the best filter for the 1800 was the:
Wal Mart Super Tech ST 6607 or Fram PH6607. and ST 7317 is a longer filter and is for the 1500's.
And, If you were not aware, the 1500 filter will work on the 1800 too.
These filters tested better than the Japan Honda filters, and at a cost of $2.67.
You get a better filter for far less money. Sorry Honda.
One other note, it does not void your warranty to use an aftermarket filter.
The Manguson Moss Act of the United States Congress says that if it voids your warranty
then the company must provide the filter for free.
Almost every filter meets or exceed original specs.

AIR FILTER
Most of the basic service tasks on the GL1800 are straightforward enough. Spark plugs, brake pads and even rear wheel removal are all easier to do than on previous Goldwing models. However, replacing the air filter causes many GL1800 owners to think twice about doing the job themselves because the top shelter has to be removed to get at the filter.
They are 100% HONDA BRAND not an aftermarket
This tutorial shows the procedure I used to do the job.
You do it once and you'll see how easy it is to do!
I changed mine at 25,000 miles and it was still clean. I might of made it to 40,000-50,000 before changing...???

FRONT FENDER
Fender Extensions and the Tulsa Belly Pan is just another bit of Insurance to protect your investment.
It is possible to run over something and it can hit your engine case causing it to crack or even knock a hole in it. The replacement and labor is very costly.
WASHING and WAXING
Keep it Clean! The Honda dealer has a spray. It works wonders. On top of the hill at the Honda dealer there are 2 types. I believe the HONDA BRAND is better!
SEAT COVERS
For about $18.77 "SOME" Wal-mart's sell a auto seat pad that works wonders on the Gold Wing. It's called "PVC Seat Cushion" Made by "Roadmaster"
I've only found it at Batesville, Conway and North Little Rock. Some others don't carry it. It even has a handle to carry. It has a zipper for removal and cleaning.
You also have the ability to cut and custom sew your shape. But I think it is just fine the way it is. Those gel pads can cost over $100.00.
RADIATOR
Rinse out your radiator with water hose everytime you clean your bike - especially during the hot weather.
SPECIALTY TOOLS
I've heard that there's a special socket that a person needs to check or replace the bearings of the front triple tree.
You can get away with just using a punch to remove and install the Tripple Tree Nuts.
I just tightened it by hand then a 3/4 turn with the punch. It worked for me!
Don't forget to greese your bearings real good
AIR FILTERS
The mechanic at Sunrise says that those fancy filters that give you more air means more dirt too. Stick with the OEM Filters.
TRAILERS
Spare tire, and folding tire t-iron from Wal-mart and carry more tools, light and air pump etc...
SAFETY ITEMS
If not for you... then carry them for someone else!
LIGHTS
Did you know that on the left side of the fuse panel, after you remove the cover, there are 2 screws (positive & negative)
They are fused (15A) and is on the Assy. circuit?
It makes it easy to install electrical items that aren't plug and play.
Bill knows a lot about LED LIGHTS!
Before you light up your bike look around and talk to everyone you can.
There are a lot of choices: lights, colors, switches and locations.
Be sure to speak with Bill!
NEW TIRES... CHECK THE DATES

FORK OIL!
Skip and Greg changed their air filter and installed "All Balls Roller Bearings" in their tripple tree
While at it, they changed the FORK OIL in their front forks
They found that the fork oil in both motorcycles were seriously low!!!
They only had a combined amount of only 9 ounces
Honda GL1800 needs #10 weight FORK OIL (not motor oil)
The RIGHT FORK needs 16.4 ounces & the LEFT FORK needs 17.9 ounces
After changing them they said it rode like a new bike
On another bike; it was diving down 3 inches while breaking.
We added 1/2 oz of oil to each fork and it reduced the dive and rode better!

NITROGEN
No More Loosing Air Pressure!
Tires last longer and they don't heat up as much as "just air"
Just "AIR" has 75% Nitrogen... But it has a lot of moisture
That's what heats up the tires the most
Nitrogen is better and it also resists oxidation!

INTERCOM AIR NOISE
Our J&M microphone is one-sided. If you have an open faced helmet you've noticed there is a lot of "air-noise" while talking to your co-rider or on the CB radio. But, when you put a fingerover 1/2 of the microphone the "air-noise" stops. I've found a company that makes a"Windsock Wind Deflector" It's a highly durable cover that is easily slipped over your microphone foam to deflect the wind away from your microphone intercom system. You can even tweak it some more by turning the cover so that the one sided microphone is being covered more by the cover. All I know is that it works.
Check out Lisa & Tom's website. They have all the sizes and it's better than using your finger!
